Volunteer Africa 32 Degrees South now offers a 60 Day Field Guide Training Course with accreditation from the Field Guides Association of South Africa (FGASA).
 
Live, work and learn under the professional tuition of Dennis Taylor (BSc Botany and Zoology, Dip Agricultural Mgt, FGASA Field Guiding Level 3 Special Knowledge & Skills Dangerous Animals along with 15 years in conservation mgt) as your FGASA lecturer.
 
VA32 offers you the opportunity for both personal & professional development with an on-site, fully inclusive package Field Guide Training Course, based both in the stunning wilderness and a beautiful Wild Coast game reserve. The Field Guide Course will prepare you to sit the Southern African accredited FGASA Level 1 exam*. This qualification will allow you to work in a professional capacity as a game or field guide with a qualification that is recognised throughout Africa.

The Field Guide Course folows the FGASA manual for level 1:
Overview of course theory:
1. Understanding guiding in nature
2. Creating a guided nature
3. Experience
4. South African biomes
5. Botany
6. Grasses
7. Weather & Climate
8. Ecology
9. Geology & Soils
10. Astronomy
11. Taxonomy
12. Vegetation Identification
13. Biodiversity continued: Anthropods, Amphibians, Reptiles, Fish, Birds, Mammals.
14. Conservation Management
15. Cultural Heritage
16. Environmental Management

Practical Aspects:
- Basic 4x4 driving skills
- Sleep out in the bush
- Fire Arms
- Monitoring & interpreting animal behaviour
- Identifying tracks and safe, informative tracking skills
- Radio procedures
- Preparation & safety as it relates to bush camps
 
Throughout the two month Field Guide Course you will write tests, perform oral presentations and undertake practical game walks & drives. These will all be evaluated to ensure that you are competantly prepared to undertake your FGASA exam.

Course Fee: R 33 000.00

The Cost of the Course also includes:
- Return airport transfers (East London Airport)
- All accomodation whilst on the course
- 3 meals a day
- Lectures & training using the FGASA syllabus

- FGASA manual
- FGASA exam fee

The Cost of the Course Excludes:
- First Aid Certificate (required for guiding accreditation)
- Any costs associated with weekends & free time if you choose to leave the FGASA camps
